Feeling Overwhelmed During Lockdown? Here Are Our 5 Top Tips To Help
Feb 16, 2021It is fair to say we’re living in a crazy time. In one way or another, the pandemic has affected absolutely everybody.
We've had to adapt to living with Covid-19 restrictions, and almost a year on this can still feel overwhelming. Whilst some are finding themselves with a lot of extra time on their hands and not a lot to do, others are busier than ever - key-workers are still going to work, parents are learning how to home-school and some may feel like they haven’t got five minutes to take a break.
Whichever end of the spectrum you might be, it is completely normal to feel uneasy or anxious or just plain fed-up! Despite us starting to get used to lockdown, it is important to remember that this is not a normal situation and it’s okay to feel overwhelmed sometimes.
In this post, we share our top tips to help you keep positive and tackle the lockdown blues.
Allow Yourself To Be In The Moment
Feeling tense? Take a moment to take some deep breaths. When we are stressed or anxious, it shows up in our bodies. You may notice that you feel tension in your shoulders or that it is difficult to take a full breath. Set a reminder on your phone and make some time to practice a breathing exercise. This article by Healthline offers 10 examples you may like to try.
If you are constantly busy and feeling overwhelmed, you may also benefit from taking a few minutes to write down your thoughts. It may sound silly, but simply having a list of things in front of you can really help to visualise and prioritise the things you need to focus on. It may also help you to manage expectations of what you are able to achieve. Work through your list one thing at a time and remember to ask for help when you need to.
Encourage Yourself To Keep a Routine

With many of us spending more time at home, it can be difficult to stick to a normal routine. You may feel you’re juggling a bit of everything and struggling with motivation, but that is OK.
Our homes are our safe places where we are used to relaxing but in this scenario, we are bringing work, school and all our social lives home with us! It is normal to feel overwhelmed.
Try putting together a new routine and build your ‘new normal’. Giving yourself just a few things to do each day is a great way to feel a sense of achievement. It doesn’t have to be strict - now is not the time to be pressuring yourself! Even something as simple as making your bed, going for a walk or taking some time to practice your skincare routine every day can really beneficial.
Take Some Time For You

We are all trying our best to adapt during lockdown which can be really challenging. Whether you’re rushed off of your feet with lots of responsibilities or are sat wondering what to do yourself, it is important to remember to take some time for you.
Allow yourself some time to relax and show yourself some kindness. Have a bath, treat yourself to a cup of tea and a biscuit or listen to some soothing music. Even just five minutes can make a positive impact on your mood.
If you’re looking for a way to relax and show your skin some extra love, you may like to take a look at ARK Skincare’s Jade Facial Tool. The ancient self-care beauty ritual Gua Sha has been used for several thousand years as a natural way to achieve skin health and provide a radiant, youthful complexion. It can also be a therapeutic way to relax and unwind.
The sweeping action of the jade tool against the skin stimulates blood circulation and encourages lymphatic drainage. With regular practice facial tension is relieved, the jaw line becomes more defined, fine lines are reduced, skin is lifted and de-puffed. You can learn more about the benefits of Gua Sha in one of our previous blog posts by clicking here.
Practice Positive Self Talk
It is normal to feel anxious or a bit low at the moment. There is lots going on in the world! We are all living in the most peculiar times. Just remember that things will get better. You may not feel 100% everyday but it is important to know that you are not alone. Remember, nobody has a ‘how to happily cope with the lockdown manual’ ...we are all just trying our best.
This article about positive self-talk is well worth reading. It gives some great examples of how you can turn negative thoughts into positive ones and ways you can improve your internal dialogue.
You are doing your best. Be kind to yourself.
Reach Out To Others

It’s no secret that lockdown can be very isolating. We are all missing seeing our friends and family and being able to do normal things. It may feel like there is very little to catch up on at the moment as the days and weeks can be so similar, but even so, reaching out to others is still really important.
Pick up the phone and give a friend or family member a call. Sharing your thoughts and feelings with others can make you feel so much better. Even a quick conversation with a loved one may be everything you need to pick yourself up and it may even make their day too!
Make Some Post-Lockdown Plans

As we’ve said before, it’s important to remember that this won’t last forever. It may take a long time for things to go back to normal, but happier times are coming. You may like to think of some fun things you can do after lockdown to keep you inspired.
How about planning a day out with a friend or family member? Perhaps you could research some different places you might like to visit or plan something nice you might like to do for yourself. Having things to look forward to is a great way to help you keep moving forward. We will get through this.

With just a few weeks left to go, it’s time to finish off your Christmas shopping and get wrapping! There are so many fun, creative ways to wrap gifts. We love the look of these Furoshiki wrapping cloths; they are such a unique and fun way to wrap a gift for somebody, plus they can be reused again and again to avoid excess waste!
If you’re looking for more sustainable ways to wrap your gifts, perhaps you could opt for the types of wrapping paper which are much easier to recycle (foil or glitter-decorated paper cannot be recycled and needs to go in the general waste). There are so many clever and sustainable ideas/ DIY hacks online to keep yourself busy. Perhaps you could even have a go at creating your own wrapping paper or wrapping your presents in reusable tote bags! Take a look at ours here.
If you’ve left your Christmas shopping to the last minute and are still on the hunt for the perfect gift, make sure to head over to the ARK Skincare website before the weekend! We have so many popular gift sets for all different ages so there is something for absolutely everybody - but be quick! The last day to place an order to ensure it arrives before Christmas is Sunday 20th December before midnight.

While you might not have so many Christmas parties to get dressed up for this year, the Christmas break is definitely a good excuse to give yourself some extra TLC. Why not treat yourself to a relaxing pamper evening? Maybe a glass of mulled wine too?... You deserve it!

If you’re in need of ideas, we have a generous selection of gifts to choose from on our website and you even have the option to ship directly to your recipient - just make sure to remember to amend the shipping address at checkout!
5. Donate to those in need
Christmas is the time to show some generosity and goodwill and there are certainly people in need & lots of amazing charities who would appreciate your support.
We recently gifted some of our products to the Haslemere food bank who were so grateful to receive a donation. They couldn’t wait to wrap and gift them at their Christmas distribution and reminded us that it really does mean a lot to those who are struggling.
Do you have items that you no longer use that would make a great gift for somebody? Is there something you could donate to a local charity? You might just make someone's Christmas day!

Not long to go now!...
Hopefully we have inspired you to get stuck into something fun and festive to boost your Christmas spirit. We'd love to see what you get up to! Be sure to tag us in your stories and posts @arkskincare.

Self Care 101 - Our 5 Top Tips On Taking Care Of Yourself

April Favourites
Apr 27, 2020In the last few weeks, we have received some amazing product feedback so, we decided to round up some of the most recent reviews and share what everyone has been loving with you!
“I am so impressed with it that I can’t imagine using anything else at bedtime now. Using this combination of products has my skin feeling soft, supple and brighter, protected against the harsh winter weather” - Even Angels Fall, Lifestyle & Beauty Blogger
“I've used the Age Defend Regenerating Night Treatment most nights for nearly three weeks and I would confidently recommend it to virtually anyone who has skin. It feels a little bit indulgent to use, absorbs nicely and, so far, has made my face feel more hydrated and comfortable than it has in a long time.” Lippy In London, Beauty Blogger
"When it comes to the colder months, my skin needs a bit more oomph in my moisturiser and this fits the bill perfectly. It has kiwi seed oil (omega 3 fatty acids for moisture and to help the skin barrier), passion fruit oil (anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory), Prodizia (for signs of fatigue), and CoQ10 (an antioxidant to help the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles)." Talonted Lex, Beauty Blogger
"ARK Skincare is a brand I've reviewed and raved about on my blog for a while now and I cannot recommend their Age Defend Replenishing Moisturiser enough (it's my favourite product of theirs, closely followed by the new Age Defend Night Treatment" Of Beauty & Nothingness, Beauty Blogger
"Now I must admit I'm always a little nervous about trying new moisturisers as I hate heavy products that feel too rich & worry that they will lead my hormonal skin to breakouts. However, this product is anything but heavy & contains Co-enzyme Q10 & collagen-boosting vitamin A & despite the fact I initially pumped too much out of the bottle I was amazed at how quickly it absorbed into my skin & instantly left it feeling smoother & looking plumper."
"I love candlelight. Something about it is so soothing. And better yet if the candle smells incredible. I’ve recently been loving the ARK Spa Aromatics Travel Candle. It’s small enough to take it with you on your travels so you can take your favourite scent with you wherever you go but big enough to have lots of burn time." Beauty Rocks, Lifestyle & Beauty Blogger
"At night, (especially when I was using the tool on my neck) I felt a lot of tension released. That’s what sitting at a laptop for most of the day typing can do for you folks! I did – through repeated use (and I stress the repeated use) – notice a difference especially to my eye area – it did appear that my brows were lifted and my eyes were more open." Living Pretty Happy, Beauty & Lifestyle Blogger
Pre-Cleanse Makeup Remover & Defend Conditioning Cleanser
"I've been using these products for a few weeks now & I'm impressed with both. The Pre Cleanse & Make-Up Remover effectively removes all traces of my make up, even when wearing a heavy smokey eye & when used with the Conditioning Cleanser I've found my skin has been left feeling deeply cleansed & smooth." My Midlife Fashion, Fashion Blogger
Triple Action Exfoliator

"I’ve used the ARK Skincare Triple Action Exfoliator once and I adored it.
Once I washed the exfoliator off my face, my skin felt incredibly soft and smooth. This is such a satisfying feeling and I couldn’t stop touching my face. It reminded me of when I got a microdermabrasion treatment as my skin’s texture felt completely renewed." A Womans Confidence Beauty & Lifestyle Blogger.
" Before I used this serum, I genuinely used to use about four different ones to try and target different issues but this one does it all. It saves so much time only having to apply one product and I’ve definitely noticed a huge difference since using this serum. My pores are definitely way less obvious, it calms my redness and even my blackheads have reduced." According to Alice Beauty & Lifestyle Blogger.
"This went onto the skin beautifully and was super easily absorbed. I had been searching for a new daily SPF product for months and this is literally exactly what I wanted to add to my skincare routine, as I know it's protecting my skin from any harmful UVA and UVB rays, maintaining its youthfulness and overall health as well. "The "airbrush" finish allows makeup to glide on effortlessly and last all day long." Coconut Couture, Lifestyle Blogger
Skin Essential Reverse Gravity Eye Cream
"Another award-winning product I have been enjoying using is the ARK Skincare Gravity Defying Eye Treatment. This product is amazing at reducing the appearance of wrinkles and help to fade dark circles and diminishes puffiness." Juelook, Beauty & Lifestyle Blogger

How To Work From Home
Mar 25, 2020What a peculiar time we’re living in. Strange - isn’t it? We at ARK are just trying our best to count our blessings and take each day as it comes. Whether you are at home, at work, or somewhere in between, we hope that you’re okay and keeping well.
Please do keep in touch with us via social media, or if you wish to contact our customer services team, please email office@arkskincare.com or call 02037403303 and leave a message. We are all working from home but will respond to every message we receive. The ARK Skincare website is still operating as normal and we are continuing to ship orders.
With a lot of us now staying inside, we thought we would share some tips on working from home. For this, we asked our newest member of the team Lucy, our new sales and marketing assistant, to share what she has learned in her first week from working from home.

If you’re like me and finding yourself working from home for the first time, you might be still finding out how to adjust. So, I thought it would be a better time than ever to create a guide for working at home and put together some top tips that I’ve learned.
1. Establish a routine
Although you’re at home, there is still work to be done. Of course, your schedule might be a little more relaxed than usual, but it is still important to get a good night's sleep and wake up at a sensible time so you feel fresh and ready for the day. Deciding when you plan to take your lunch and breaks is important too as then you can work around your own guidelines.
2. Create a workspace

While at home, it’s really important to differentiate ‘being at work’ and being at home. Try to find a quiet space to do your work where you aren’t in the way of anybody else. Then, you can create a set up with everything you’ll need. Try your best to keep out of the way of any distractions like the tv, phones or your other family members.
3. Write a daily to-do list

Write yourself a list of things you want to achieve and then order them most to least important. I find starting with the most important first means I can relax a little knowing it's done and don’t rush through any of my other work. It can be really helpful to do this at the end of the working day so you know what has been done and what your priorities are for the next day.
4. Remember to take breaks

Be realistic with the goals you set yourself. It’s not healthy to be sat down all day consumed in one thing. Aim to take short breaks every few hours to allow yourself some time away from a screen. This could be when you take a walk, make your lunch or catch up with a family member.
5. Get some exercise

Without the need to get yourself to your workplace and with gyms being closed, it can be very easy to forget to keep active, but exercise is so important for both physical and mental health. This article by the NHS explains why sitting too much is bad for us and why it is so important to stay active. So, if you’re lucky enough to have a little bit of sun where you are, it's definitely worth getting out and making the most of it, even if it is just for a short walk!
There are also some great pre-filmed workouts online and even some live workout classes being aired on youtube and Instagram which give a great sense of community and encouragement for those who feel like they need a pick me up.
6. Communicate
Please don’t allow yourself to get lonely. This is a difficult time for everybody, but we are so blessed to live in a world where we have technology and phones to be able to keep in contact with those around us. Make sure to keep in touch with family and friends by sending pictures and sharing the things that make you smile to keep the conversation flowing!
7. Most importantly, be kind to yourself. This is something new for everyone and we are all still learning to adjust. Some days are bound to be easier than others and that is okay. Try your best to focus on all the little things that bring you joy and be proud of all the things you are able to achieve. We must keep finding the positives and remember that we will get through this.
In the next few posts we will be sharing some ideas of what you can do in your free time while being at home, so keep an eye out if you're in need of some inspiration!
Also, while we're all washing our hands constantly, we have decided to put together a little gift. A free hand & nail cream will be added to any orders £5 or over - helping you to avoid getting dry hands!
