How To Lift Your Mood

8 TOP TIPS

Image of a flat lay on a cosy duvet with a cup of tea, book and a candle
We all have our days where we don't feel so good and need a little bit of comfort. So, this week, we thought we'd share some of our top tips to help lift and boost your mood, for when you're in need of a pick me up. Remember you can always chat with us on socials too, we love hearing from you! @ARKskincare
Title: 8 ways to uplift your mood
Tip one: Reflect
Sometimes it can feel easier to push negative emotions away, rather than actually dealing with them. However, ignoring the way you’re really feeling and bottling things up can often do more damage than good.
Be kind to yourself. Take some time out and reflect on what it is that might be making you feel down. Perhaps sharing your feelings with a friend or family member might help. Or, if you don’t feel like talking, allow yourself some time to accept how you feel. Sometimes a good cry to a sad film can relieve a lot of built-up tension and make you feel a lot better!
Tip 2: Talk with others
Image of a girl holding her iphone, scrolling through her messages on social media
Chatting with friends or family members can always help to boost your mood. While we all know face to face interaction is limited right now, why not call or facetime someone you haven’t caught up with for a while? Start a virtual hangout and have your own ‘pub’ quiz with your best friends and favorite drinks, or get creative with an online game of Pictionary!
Tip Three: Get stuck into something fun!

Do you ever find yourself so submerged with something, then you look at the clock and hours have gone by? Find something you enjoy doing and allow yourself some time to have fun! There’s plenty of things to keep you occupied - a funny film or tv show, writing/drawing, puzzles, online quizzes, or even virtual games you can play online with friends!

While they're a lot less chatty, if you have a pet, spend some time with them too! Animals can bring us so much joy with the little things they do and can be a great company when you're feeling low.

Tip Four: Bake something yummy!

Image: Chocolate chip cookies on a cooling rack next to a mug of milk

“The way to someone's heart is through their stomach!” - A tasty treat is always a great way to put a smile on someone's face. There are plenty of free recipes online, so why not have a go at trying one yourself? Baking can be a really therapeutic way of keeping busy for a few hours and as a bonus, you'll have an afternoon treat to go with a cup of tea!

If you're in need of some inspiration, take a look at these yummy looking recipes!

Tip Five: Do a good deed

Offering an act of kindness to others is always a nice thing to do. It can make somebody’s day and you’ll feel great seeing their reaction, knowing you’ve done lovely something for them. Ideas could be offering some help to somebody who is struggling, treating a loved one to a home-cooked meal or even showing a smile to a stranger.

Tip 6: Listen to music or podcasts

Image of a brown acoustic guitar leaning on a while pillow on a desk chair

Having something positive to listen to is always a good way to lift the mood. Put together a playlist of all your favorite songs to put on or find something interesting to listen to.
There are plenty of podcasts online where people talk about all kinds of different topics.

For an all-round feel-good podcast, The Mental Makeover Podcast has lots of episodes on how to live a happier lifestyle, including topics such as the law of attraction, boosting your mood and improving your self-confidence. Definitely worth a listen!

Tip Seven: Get some sunshine!

Image of lots of pretty sunflowers in a sunny field

Although we all know the importance of staying inside at the moment, we can still get our dose of vitamin D! Exposure to sunlight is thought to increase the brain's release of a hormone called serotonin, known as the happy hormone. Even going for a short walk or standing outside for 5-10 minutes can help. Just don't forget your SPF!

Tip Eight: Pamper Yourself!

Image of a bath tray on a bathtub with candles, flowers and books

Taking some time out to practice self-care is so important for good mental health. Run a bath, pop a face mask on, grab some of your favourite body products and treat yourself to a few hours to yourself to relax and unwind. An early night now and again helps too - a rested mind makes anyone feel better!

What We Have Learnt From Isolation... So Far

The world has temporarily changed and we are learning how to adjust to our new way of life. Here we share tips to help us all get through this together and stay positive...

Title: On keeping up with the news
Do not watch the news nonstop! Decide on one update a day and make sure it is a reliable source. Perhaps you enjoy a particular TV or radio news bulletin, or maybe you watch the daily government briefing? Stick to one, otherwise, it becomes overwhelming.
Do not lose your day to social media scaremongering! Now is the time to make sure you are following only positive social media accounts and avoid any inaccurate information. Social media will be so important to us to keep in touch over the next few weeks, but it can also be incredibly negative. Follow the positive hashtags #positives #postivevibes #positivenews #goodnews .. and maybe the odd cute animal site!Title: On keeping fit and healthyDog lying on its back asleep
It is really easy to slip into poor habits and to move only a few steps each day. Pick a time to exercise and stick to it. There are so many free videos and fitness challenges available on YouTube and Social media. No gyms required!
This is no time to start an extreme eating plan! Eat a balanced diet and make sure you get the vitamins and minerals your body needs. Don't start panic taking new supplements, but perhaps a daily dose of Vitamin C will help. Also, ensure you get exposure to light rays for a short time each day to top up your Vitamin D levels. You can achieve this by sitting at an open window if you can't get out. But don't forget your SPF if you are in sunlight for any length of time!
      Title: on keeping in touch
This is a great opportunity to check-in with old friends and extended family whom you may not have seen recently. Re-establish old links. A 'phone call now could really make someone's day.
There are lots of community groups starting up to offer local assistance. Check-in with your neighbours (whilst staying two meters apart) even if you don't know them, and make sure they are OK.
      Title: on homeschooling
You can't become the world's best teacher overnight! If you are trying to work from home as well as managing homeschooling it is a pretty impossible task. Cut yourself some slack. Do the best you can. Use all the school resources provided but if you need to resort to online tutorials, videos, and films, that is fine.
      Title: On self care
Image: Lady sitting in a bathtub drinking a glass of wine
Remember that body brush you bought but never really used? .. Or a Jade tool you planned to learn how to perfect the art of facial massage with? Do you have other products you never really got to grips with? Now is the time. Create a great facial and body skincare regime and get into the habit whilst you have the time. You will see the physical improvements, as well as feel the psychological benefits of a good self-care regime. Plus there is nothing quite like a soak in the bath at the end of the day to ease away stress.
      Title: On keeping sane!
"Keep a diary and someday it will keep you" Mae West was very wise... but even if you don't manage to create a best seller, writing your feelings down can be very cathartic and help you organise your thoughts and feelings. Getting the negatives off your chest is good but write down the good stuff too and focus on all the positives. It will help!
Over the coming weeks we will be sharing lots of tips and ideas, and hopefully spreading some positivity. Our office is closed as our staff are now all working from home, but please do keep in touch via social media or email. We will get back to all messages in turn. Please share anything which has made you feel good and we will pass it on to the rest of the ARK Skincare community.

      How To Work From Home

What a peculiar time we’re living in. Strange - isn’t it? We at ARK are just trying our best to count our blessings and take each day as it comes. Whether you are at home, at work, or somewhere in between, we hope that you’re okay and keeping well.

Please do keep in touch with us via social media, or if you wish to contact our customer services team, please email office@arkskincare.com or call 02037403303 and leave a message. We are all working from home but will respond to every message we receive. The ARK Skincare website is still operating as normal and we are continuing to ship orders.

With a lot of us now staying inside, we thought we would share some tips on working from home. For this, we asked our newest member of the team Lucy, our new sales and marketing assistant, to share what she has learned in her first week from working from home.

Image: laptop, diary and a coffee mug on a work desk

If you’re like me and finding yourself working from home for the first time, you might be still finding out how to adjust. So, I thought it would be a better time than ever to create a guide for working at home and put together some top tips that I’ve learned.

      1. Establish a routine

Although you’re at home, there is still work to be done. Of course, your schedule might be a little more relaxed than usual, but it is still important to get a good night's sleep and wake up at a sensible time so you feel fresh and ready for the day. Deciding when you plan to take your lunch and breaks is important too as then you can work around your own guidelines.

      2. Create a workspace

Work desk set up in a home

While at home, it’s really important to differentiate ‘being at work’ and being at home. Try to find a quiet space to do your work where you aren’t in the way of anybody else. Then, you can create a set up with everything you’ll need. Try your best to keep out of the way of any distractions like the tv, phones or your other family members.

      3. Write a daily to-do list

Somebody looking through their work diary

Write yourself a list of things you want to achieve and then order them most to least important. I find starting with the most important first means I can relax a little knowing it's done and don’t rush through any of my other work. It can be really helpful to do this at the end of the working day so you know what has been done and what your priorities are for the next day.

      4. Remember to take breaks

A laptop and written calendar laid out on a work desk

Be realistic with the goals you set yourself. It’s not healthy to be sat down all day consumed in one thing. Aim to take short breaks every few hours to allow yourself some time away from a screen. This could be when you take a walk, make your lunch or catch up with a family member.

      5. Get some exercise

A lady wearing sports leggings and trainers running up some outdoor steps

Without the need to get yourself to your workplace and with gyms being closed, it can be very easy to forget to keep active, but exercise is so important for both physical and mental health. This article by the NHS explains why sitting too much is bad for us and why it is so important to stay active. So, if you’re lucky enough to have a little bit of sun where you are, it's definitely worth getting out and making the most of it, even if it is just for a short walk!

There are also some great pre-filmed workouts online and even some live workout classes being aired on youtube and Instagram which give a great sense of community and encouragement for those who feel like they need a pick me up.

      6. Communicate

Please don’t allow yourself to get lonely. This is a difficult time for everybody, but we are so blessed to live in a world where we have technology and phones to be able to keep in contact with those around us. Make sure to keep in touch with family and friends by sending pictures and sharing the things that make you smile to keep the conversation flowing!

      7. Most importantly, be kind to yourself. This is something new for everyone and we are all still learning to adjust. Some days are bound to be easier than others and that is okay. Try your best to focus on all the little things that bring you joy and be proud of all the things you are able to achieve. We must keep finding the positives and remember that we will get through this.

In the next few posts we will be sharing some ideas of what you can do in your free time while being at home, so keep an eye out if you're in need of some inspiration!

Also, while we're all washing our hands constantly, we have decided to put together a little gift. A free hand & nail cream will be added to any orders £5 or over - helping you to avoid getting dry hands!

Loved by Elena - ARK Skincare

Loved by Elena wrote a blog post all about her favourite ARK Skincare products. Firstly she talks about our Age Defend Replenishing Moisturiser; "ARK’s skincare replenishing moisturizer is light with a delicate scent. It contains kiwi and passion fruit lipids and is nourishing enough for my dry skin. This for me is a must in any beauty product; my skin has changed over the years but it’s still extremely dry in places, especially now in the summer after sun exposure."
ARK Skincare's Defend Moisturiser and SPF 30 Primer
Furthermore, she talks about our Skin Protector SPF30 Primer; "pigmentation is a bit of a problem for me and I’m doing my utmost to try and prevent it getting worse. So SPF is a must, not just in summer but all year round. This is great product, serving not just as a primer, but as a moisturiser and a sunscreen all in one. It provides the all important UVA and UVB protection against rays, as well as serving as an antioxidant system for everyday skin defence. This is such a great all round product, and I’ve been using it a lot the past few weeks. It’s not greasy and leaves my skin really soft, making it a great base for make up. My skin feels hydrated and it’s now became part of my daily beauty routine."

Back to you Beauty - Mature Skin Series

Sharon from Back to you Beauty has started a 'Mature Skin Series' and recently did a post about testing the perfect face mists for mature skin. In this post she features our Skin Essential Hydrating Beauty Mist.
"I use a face mist everyday, a couple of times for different reasons. Sometimes as soon as I wake up – to wake up! Other times I spritz one over a face masque before I remove it, sometimes i use one on the train when I am squashed in like a sardine and always to set my make up."

      ARK Skincare's Hydrating Beauty Mist

"If you watch my Instastories Often, you will have seen me using this loads lately. I just love the scent of refreshing Wild Mint and the way my skin feels suddenly cool and calm. This spray is perfect for all ages and stages of skin but I have included it in my mature skin round-up as I think that a hot, flushed skin, dehydrated skin or someone with those fine lines and wrinkles can really benefit from the hydrating properites it offers. The cooling sensation of that Wild Mint and the beautiful ingredients included make this a joy to use. Goji and Blue Lotus (which is in a lot of much higher price point skincare) bring lots of anti-oxidant rich, brightening properties as well as detoxifying and anti-inflammatory properties which I think work wonderfully on menopausal skin. I am loving this brand so much and I know you will too."

The Beautiful Bluebird - ARK Skincare SPF30 Primer

Roxie from The Beautiful Bluebird wrote a blog post all about our SPF30 Primer

"The Skin Protector SPF 30 Primer....is the latest addition to my collection and it’s become a bit of a summer essential. The primer is part of their Skin Essentials range ... It’s a great multitasker as it applies like a moisturising milk that hydrates and smooths whilst protecting your skin against damaging UV rays. I think we all know that sunscreen is something we should all wear daily, however, I almost always forget to apply it unless it’s scorching and I’m already applying it to the babies. You can smooth the Skin Protector Primer over your face after cleansing, after your moisturiser or even on its own."
"Not only does this primer create a smooth, super hydrated and slightly radiant base to apply makeup on top of, but it also offers defence against UVA and UVB rays to prevent sun damage and premature ageing, and contains an advanced active antioxidant system to protect against the effects of pollutants. The Skin Protector Primer contains Vitamin E, nourishing Shea Butter, Hydracire (blend of Jojoba, Mimosa and Sunflower) and a Hyaluronic Acid Booster."
"What I love about this primer is that it’s super light and doesn’t give your skin a white cast like other products that contain SPF do. It’s easy to blend in and leaves my skin looking slightly dewy and healthy. It doesn’t add any excess shine but a subtle glow and I often reach for it on no makeup days too. If you’re guilty of skipping sun protection, then this is the product for you. It’s a fuss-free way of protecting your skin whilst giving it an added boost of hydration and creating a flawless base to seamlessly blend your foundation on top of."

      MOONLIGHT MEL - ARK SKINCARE

Moonlight Mel tried out our Age Protect Range . About the Age Protect Skin Clear Cleanser she said; "I really love this cleanser, firstly I just love the smell, it has a lovely fresh herbal smell that smells natural. The cleanser is a little thicker than most cleansers I have tried but for me, it makes it easier to work with. I simply wash my face in the sink with warm water then apply this generously on my face gently in a circular motion, then wash off with warm water. It's best to dry the skin with a soft towel. I love this cleanser so far as my skin feels rather refreshed after using this. I do think the price of £25 is very fair considering you get a decent amount of product, it works and it smells gorgeous!"
Selection of ARK Skincare's Protect and Skin Essential products next to floral arrangement
Mel also loved the Age Protect Skin Vitality Moisturiser; "This has a lovely refreshing natural smell and the moisturiser itself...is very thick, so you can see that a little will go a long way. It melts and blends into the skin effortlessly leaving skin feeling hydrated and soft. It costs £35 which is a good value for the amount you get and a little goes a long way. I would get this again for sure." She also particularly loved the pump mechanism, "Not only does it give the right amount of product each time but it also acts like a vacuum so no product is wasted. The vitality moisturiser offers the perfect level of hydration for younger skin."
Mel has yet to try the Pre Cleanse & Make-Up Remover, however she thinks that "This is a wonderful product as it is a pre cleanser and also a makeup remover....I am looking forward to trying it out."

Kate Louise Blogs - ARK Skincare

Kate Lousie kindly wrote a blog post all about our Age Defend Range and our Pre Cleanse & Make-Up Remover
Selection of ARK Skincare Age Intelligent Products
Firstly, she tried our Pre Cleanse & Makeup Remover.
"I've really been enjoying using this as a change from my usual micellar water, and have been finding it just as effective at removing makeup. Formulated from a multi-fruit lipid blend with Omegas 3, 6 and 9 and containing Grape Seed, Avocado and Kiwi Oil, the product nourishes while dissolving grime and feels like a very light oil on the skin. I've mentioned before that my skin doesn't always appreciate oil based cleansing on a long term basis, so I've not been using this every day of the week. As a result, my complexion is reaping the nourishing benefits of this gentle cleanser without my oily t-zone having the chance to become irritated. In addition to the main ingredients, Margosa Leaf Extract helps to curb the spread of bacteria while Zi Cao (an Ayurvedic herb) soothes sensitivity."
      ARK Skincare's Pre Cleanse & Make-Up Remover
Secondly, Kate tried our Age Defend range. About the Age Defend Conditioning Cleanser, Kate said; "This is probably my favourite of the three products as it's such a pleasure to use. The gel-type consistency that my skin always seems to favour, it also has the loveliest light and natural fragrance to it. The ingredients include Moringa Oil, rich in Vitamins A and C, as well as Kiwi and Passionfruit Lipids which provide moisture boosting Omega 3 fatty acids. Powerful antioxidant Blue Lotus assists with skin firmness and elasticity, while the combination as a whole helps to calm redness and soothe sensitive skin. I've been using this morning and night for a while now, and it always leaves my skin feeling clean but not stripped, and beautifully balanced."
      ARK Skincare's Age Defend Cleanser
      ARK Skincare's Age Defend texture
Lastly, Kate tried our Age Defend Moisturiser; "Just like the cleanser, I've been using the Replenishing Moisturiser twice a day and my skin has been loving it. It's creamy enough to make my complexion feel like it's getting the hydration it needs, yet light enough to absorb easily and let me press on with makeup application. It contains Co-enzyme Q10 as well as Shea Butter and Olive Oil to provide plenty of moisture, and wrinkle plumping peptides including Matrixyl to help soften the appearance of fine lines. It's a fantastic moisturiser for anyone in their thirties or forties to have in their collection as a daily staple. My skin feels soft and looks smooth, and I love that I can just reach for this on a regular basis and know that it's working for my skin without having to think too much about it."
      ARK Skincare's Age Defend Moisturiser
"I love the concept of age-based skincare, especially as you can still address additional skincare issues within the scope of their product range. The products themselves have been working very well for me and just as before, I'm keen to try more."

Beauty | Let's take it off, Let's Talk Cleansers - The Naughty Forty Diaries

Tracey from 'The Naughty Forty Diaries' wrote a blog post all about her favourite cleansers. "I thought I’d share 3 cleansers with you that I have received over the past month or so. Cleansers I am really enjoying using . I will probably purchase them all for myself after they have ran out." She featured our Age Defend Conditioning Cleanser
      ARK Skincare's Age Defend Cleanser
"This cleanser is great for my second cleanse. It has been formulated especially for men and woman in their 30’s and 40’s .
The pump dispenser hygienically disperses just the right amount of clear gel cleanser that has a pleasant but not overpowering scent.
I apply a couple of pumps directly onto my BeGlow TIA before massaging around my face for a further few minutes.
It is a targeted cleanser with hydrating Moringa Oil to remove impurities, gently exfoliate and boost elasticity.
Kiwi, passion fruit lipids, Vitamin A and high levels of Omega 3 and Omega 6 to assist skins fitness and defend against moisture loss.
It leaves my skin feeling comfortable and clean without any dryness. Lines and wrinkles appear softer. It’s just a really lovely cleanser."

ARK's Age Protect Skin Vitality Moisturiser
One of her tips is that 'hydration is key'. For this she features our age protect skin vitality moisturiser; "I don’t leave my house without putting on a moisturiser, my skin just doesn’t feel the same without it!". "When it comes to moisturiser, it’s all about your skin type and what it responds well to. I know mine likes all of the moisture and hydration, but yours may prefer something lighter, so follow the formulas you know work for you, but don’t skip it!"

      Talonted Lex's 'Skincare Shake Up'

Blogger Talonted Lex shows us her 'Skincare shake up August 17 edition' and one of the products shes tried and loved has been our Skin Perfecter Anti-redness serum.
"The ARK website (and brand concept) is enormously helpful to those who are a bit confused as to where to start when it comes to skincare, because you can either take a look at products recommended by age or by skin concern. They recommend that you pick your cleanser and moisturiser based on the age bracket, and any additional products based on the specific skin issues you want to target. With that in mind, I’ve been testing out the ARK Skin Perfector Anti-redness Serum which is a wonderfully light and easily absorbed product that has helped to soothe itchy or sore skin when my rosacea has been playing up, all while helping to keep my skin hydrated."

      ARK: Age Aware Skincare Review

      ARK Skincare's Protect Range

ARK Skincare, a brand that's loved by many BIG publications, such as Tatler, Glamour and Elle Magazine. ARK are a British Skincare brand that treats skin by age and concern, which provides a personalised skin treatment that fits each person perfectly.

I chose some of ARK's ageprotect products, the products especially formulated for my age, teens and 20's. I chose their 'Skin Clear Cleanser' and their 'Skin Vitality Moisturizer' from their ageprotect range and then I also chose one of their skin perfecting serums, their clearing serum. These products are all formulated to help my skin, as well as yours too. If you have blemish prone skin, acne or dull skin, then ARK is for you and you NEED to keep on reading.

ARK'S AGE PROTECT SKIN CLEAR CLEANSER

      Price: £24.00

      ARK Skincare's Protect Cleanser
ARK's skin clear cleanser is a godsend. My skin has always been oily on my t-zone and dry everywhere else, but since using this cleanser my skin feels balanced and healthy. I can feel the results instantly from the moment I wash it off. In the morning before applying makeup and in the evening after removing it, I will use this wonder product by wetting my face, applying one pump to my face, rubbing it all in until it lathers up before rinsing it and I feel the need to, I will repeat. This cleanser is incredible. I was using it throughout having a really bad bout of influenza, which caused my skin to go dry and become cracked, but as I used ARK's skin clear cleanser, my skin healed super quickly and only felt sore for one day, compared to the usual 3-4, this just proves how nourishing their products are!

      ARK'S AGEPROTECT SKIN VITALITY MOISTURISER

Price: £30 ARK Skincare's Protect Moisturiser

ARK's skin vitality moisturiser is a highly hydrating and replenishing face cream that is formulated for people age between their teenage years and late 20s. This antioxidant rich moisturiser protects skin from the urban environment whilst ensuring your skin looks vibrant, clear, youthful and bright. I will apply this rejuvenating moisturiser once I have cleansed using ARK's age protect skin clear cleanser and patted my face dry. My skin has felt incredible since using this moisturiser, it feels replenished, rejuvenated, revived and most importantly, blemish protected.

      ARK'S SKINPERFECTOR CLEARING SERUM

      Price: £42ARK Skincare's Clearing Serum

ARK's skinperfector clearing serum is a luxurious and opulent aid to the skin, that banishes bacteria and refines your pores to treat any breakouts before they, well, breakout. This serum is great for oily skin, which is why I chose it. My skin is slightly oily sometimes, which means my skin isn't fully hydrated, but this serum hydrates my skin, stops the oily zones from becoming oilier and prevents my skin from drying out. I use this after I have moisturised with my ARK facial cream, or I will add one or two drops of the serum into the moisturiser. Their clearing serum is formulated for all ages, which is what makes this a good versatile product.

Overall I think that ARK's skincare products are absolutely incredible. Not only has my skin improved dramatically, but it hasn't changed for the worst. I can sometimes get spots from changing my skincare products, but not with ARK. ARK's products are natural and beautiful and oh my, I just really love them. I cannot recommend ARK enough! No matter what your age, there is a range for you. Whether you're in your teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s or over - ARK can and WILL cater for your skins' every need!
