Blusher & Blogging : The Wonder Oil

This is the perfect time of year to be talking about ARK Skincare’s award winning Conditioning Oil. This oil from the ARK range is 100% natural and contains 25 different essential oils. After being in the recent beautiful UK sunshine, and lightening my hair pre-summer I’m all together a little bit parched – my legs deserve a special mention in that category. I also have the odd spray tan – which makes me look healthy and is always a better option than baking in the sun, but I definitely notice that my skin is dryer in the days afterwards, due to the tanning agent DHA.

ARK’s Conditioning Oil is a multi-use product designed for massage, the bath, body and hair and here are some ideas:-

  • Hair Recovery – After sun exposure apply to the hair, I then knot mine into a bun. This is a great hair oil and protects the condition of the hair.
  • Heat styling – I am currently heat styling my hair for work every day and I love to counteract the damage by leaving the Conditioning Oil on for an hour prior to washing. I also use a few drops to smooth the ends.
  • Body Oil – incredibly nourishing for the skin. My legs are especially dry, I hate to write it but scaly at times! I shave them, I tan them, I expose them (protected with SPF) to the sun and they really need some looking after!
  •  I use Conditioning Oil to shave my legs when I really need them to be irritation free and silky smooth
  • If you prefer to have moisturised skin without putting body oil on before dressing or bed the Conditioning Oil makes a fantastic bath oil – and even a shower oil
  • One of the ingredients is sweet almond oil which is great for improving the strength and quality of nails – I use it on both my hands and my feet.

ARK Skincare’s Conditioning Oil won ‘Best Mum-To-Be’ Beauty Product in the Beauty Shortlist Baby Awards 2016 – it’s suitable for use in pregnancy.

Abyssinian Oil is a light oil that is highly heat resistant which makes it ideal for the hair before heat styling – a couple of drops is all you need if you are using it pre-styling. It also won’t clog the skin, and doesn’t leave a greasy film.

Sweet Almond Oil – which is packed with vitamins and deeply nourishing

25 Essential Oils – including Frankincense, Myrrh, Patchouli, Lemon, Mandarin, Rosewood, Labdanum, Rose and Jasmine. The scent is warm and gentle.

Sacha Inchi Seed Oil – Contains high levels of antioxidants, and omega fatty acids which help skin elasticity. Renowned for its skin soothing properties and is helpful for irritated skin and dry skin.

The oil comes with both a screw and pump dispenser – so that it’s easy to travel with as well as use at home.

Worried about redness and flushing?

Do you suffer from redness and facial flushing? Do you have visible blood capillaries, raised pimples or even eye irritation? The causes of redness, irritation and flushing can be hard to understand. Is it rosacea, an intolerance or skin hyper sensitivity?
Rosacea is more common than you think and sufferers tend to have redness in the centre of their face and very sensitive skin. This can be accompanied by broken capillaries &, in the case of acne rosacea, breakouts. Symptoms can be triggered by many things. Environmental factors such as heat, cold or wind can exaggerate the condition, as can physical exercise. Dietary choices such as consuming alcohol, spicy food or even cheese may also make things worse.

Skin sensitivity can be caused by over use of inappropriate skincare products, or repeated use of exfoliants, microdermabrasion or lasers. Redness, tightness and burning may result. Skin could otherwise be normal but has become overly sensitive due to the over stimulation.

All redness and irritation can be increased by highly scented products or synthetic chemicals. Learning to avoid triggers, using products specific to your age, and ensuring your products are free from any known irritants will help. Look for brands which display "free from" logos and explore ranges which are recommended for sensitive skin.

Follow these easy skincare tips:
  • Use skincare products suitable for your specific age group. Take a "less is more" approach when still young
  • Avoid artificial scents and colorants, and avoid synthetic chemicals
  • Use a serum with calming benefits aimed at reducing redness and flushing
  • Use a daily broad spectrum SPF to protect against damaging UVA and UVB rays
  • Use a cooling, calming spritz throughout the day
  • Consult with your skincare therapist / facialist for advise on the best course of facial treatments for you

Jessica KG : Reverse Gravity Eye Cream

One product I have never really used or trialled on my blog before is eye cream, mainly because I’d read that as long as you have a good quality moisturiser then a separate eye cream is not really necessary and a bit of a placebo product.

Over recent months I have however found myself becoming increasingly concerned about covering dark circles under my eyes and dealing with general fatigue and puffiness in my eye area. I was therefore really keen to trial and review this Ark Skincare Reverse Gravity Eye Cream for Beauty Expert.

The product comes in a long thin 15ml tube with a pump dispenser and has a gel like consistency which is easily absorbed into the under eye area and leaves a smooth grease free finish prior to the application of make up. It is designed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, reduce puffiness and diminish dark circles by tightening and hydrating the eye area.

Rather crucially it is free from parabens, lanolin, mineral oil, SD, alcohol, formaldehyde, sodium lauryl Esther sulphate, artificial fragrance and artificial colours. What it does contain is Persian silk tree extract which is proven to tighten and lift the eye area and lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also contains aloe Vera and Allantoin to calm the skin.

I have to say that I totally underestimated the power of this product. I have been trialling it since the beginning of May (so 2.5 months now), applying it every morning after my normal moisturiser and  underneath my make up and oh my what a difference it makes! On the days where I have forgotten to apply eye cream I have looked in the mirror and thought “Gosh woman you look dreadful.”

On those days my eyes looked darker, puffier and fatigued which I found hard to conceal and cover up. However, on the days where I have used this cream, my under eye puffiness and dark circles have been reduced and my eyes generally look brighter.

I am up really early in a morning as I commute to work every day and have quite a busy lifestyle so puffiness and eye fatigue have been real frustrations for me. Thankfully you only need one pump of this cream and to use it quite sparingly so it does last a really long time.

I found that if I used any more than one pump of the product, when I applied make up under my eye area the excess cream would flake off and look patchy. Using one pump allows the cream to be absorbed quickly into the skin and for your make up to go on flawlessly over the top.

My only real criticism of the product is that I found the pump dispenser to be quite awkward to use. The design itself is beautiful, but for me it’s very much a case of “style over substance”. A basic pump dispenser or a pipette which isn’t quite so awkward to push would make using the product much more enjoyable for me. In a morning speed is essential, so the easier it is for me to do my skincare routine the better!

Either way the Ark Skincare Reverse Gravity Eye Cream has totally altered my view on eye creams, so it just goes to show that sometimes you have to just give things a go. Don’t spend time trying to cover up skin complaints, try doing something that will treat them first.

Vintage Frills : Hydration Injection Masque review

I am always busy, be it running my kids around, cleaning the house, writing blog posts and lots of fun things like going to events and sourcing vintage for my business. The negative side to always being busy, is that I get really tired all the time. Now I’ve turned 30 I’m more aware of the negative impact this can have on my skin. I do eat very healthily and try really hard to drink enough, but I also try to have a really good skin care regime too.

As I’ve mentioned many times on the blog, I’m a bit of a skincare addict. When shopping for beauty products it’s always skincare items that I enjoy buying the most and will invest slightly more of my budget on. I was recently offered a new skincare product to review. I have been aware of ARK skincare for a while, but had never tried any of their products. They produce a beautiful range of specially formulated for different aged skin. They also avoid harmful chemicals in their products and favour natural ingredients, which is always something I look out for when choosing any kind of beauty product.

I was sent the Skin Perfector Hydration Injection Masque, which is aimed at all ages of skin. This product is perfect for the summer months when a mixture of sun, late nights and cocktails can get the better of us, especially during festival season. This SOS rescue masque is designed to instantly rehydrate the skin and get it back to its former glory.

It is packed with lots of lovely ingredients including; Vitamin A to help keep skin supple; Vitamin B5 for smoothness; Vitamin C for brighter-looking skin and Vitamin E for antioxidant protection. Hyaluronic Acid Booster drenches skin with moisture, optimising the circulation of water through all skin layers and providing 24-hour protection against water loss. Sugar Beet and Abyssinian Oil intensely nourish the skin for a plush, luxury skin feel.

The product is easy to apply, you just smooth a thin layer over freshly cleansed skin. The amount of time that you leave the product on depends on your age. Having just entered the 30s bracket, I left it on for a full 10 minutes. I then gently removed it with a muslin cloth.

So what did I think? My first impression was how much I liked the formula, it has quite a thick honey-like consistency, with a lovely natural smell. It feels really nice on the skin and I found it easy to relax and read my book for 10 minutes while the mask worked its magic. After removing it, I could definitely feel a huge improvement in my skin, which felt soft and less tired. Appearance-wise my skin definitely looked brighter and less tired after using the mask.

I’ve been using the product once a week for the last few weeks and I still absolutely love it. The quality is fantastic and I am really seeing and feeling a difference in my skin since using it. I will definitely be re-ordering this one and adding it to the few favourite products which I use every week. I’d also love to find some other items from the ARK range to try.

The Lavender Barn : Hydration Injection Masque

If you are a regular reader you well already know of my love of a good face mask, and this one from Ark Age Aware Skincare is no exception, you will have seen me write about Ark Age Aware skincare products before, and there is actually a lot to love about this brand, from the sleek stylish packaging to the fact the skin care is age tailored so you know it's perfect for you whatever age you are. Also that it is flying the flag and made in England.
Ark Skin perfector Hydration Injection Mask. beauty, skincare, blogger,

This Vitamin filled mask is designed as once or twice weekly pick me up for tired looking skin that lacks radiance, I am happy to report that I have used this a few times now, the 75ml tube will actually go a long long way as you only need to apply a thin layer to gain the benefits. It has clean fresh almost herb fragrance, nothing overpowering or fake, applied to clean skin you leave the mask on for the given length of time for your age group from 5-20 minutes, needless to say I was in the 20 minute range, and on a couple of occasions I did even better than that and slept in the mask, my idea not Arks, when you are ready to remove simply clean off with a cloth and warm water, follow up with ideally Ark Hydrating Toner, I didn't have this so used another brand, and then follow with Ark Age Aware moisturiser which I have reviewed here   my skin was left looking plump and refreshed as though I had had a really good nights sleep.

Ark Skinperfector Hydration Injection Mask. beauty, skincare, blogger,

Just as a little side note the fragrance actually aids as a relaxing aroma when falling to sleep, it was like drifting off in the middle of a salon facial :)

THE RAWRDROBE : Reverse Gravity Eye Cream

I've never ventured into the world of eye creams but after seeing the reviews of the Ark Reverse Gravity Eye Cream, I was interested straight away.
It claims to be "a powerful, anti-ageing formula that works to minimise the appearance of dark circles, puffiness and wrinkles" and "helps to lift, firm and tighten skin around the eyes, including the crease of the eyelid" so as you can imagine I was expecting some pretty amazing results.
After trying it out for a couple of weeks I didn't see any dramatic difference but I don't struggle with dark circles, wrinkles or puffiness so I wasn't expecting much of a change anyway. I did however notice how lovely this product is to use. It feels really luxurious, smells really refreshing and feels soothing on the skin. What more could you want from an eye cream? The formula is almost like a thick cream which absorbs into the skin quickly, making it feel really soft and non-sticky.
So because I couldn't really put this product to the test I was in need of a guinea pig and after a quick phone call to Mum, I had found one!
What did Mum have to say?
"I really enjoyed using this eye cream, I have noticed a difference in fine lines in that area especially which is something I've been trying to combat. It felt really soothing under my eyes and didn't irritate my skin at all, I think that has something to do with the aloe vera in it. The rollerball is really useful as well but sometimes it did feel like it was dragging the skin a bit. I love the texture of it and how soft and refreshing it feels and I only used it sparingly so hopefully it will last a long time."
So even though this may not be the best product for someone like me with no dark circles, wrinkles or puffiness, it's definitely one for more mature women who have problems in those areas. As you can see Mum's hooked on this now so there's absolutely no chance I'll be getting it back!

The Lavender Barn : Age Defy Brightening Cleanser + Nourishing Moisturiser

ARK Agedefy Brightening Cleanser + Nourishing Moisturiser

Hiya Darlins
You have heard me talk about the brand ARK recently when I discovered the Ark Pro Remove Pre Cleanse, a fabulous pre cleanse that simply melts away make up and grime, I followed this with Ark Agedefy Brightening Cleanser, the agedefy range that I tried is specifically designed for 50+ skin.

ARK Agedefy Brightening Cleanser + Nourishing Moisturiser
This beautifully creamy cleanser is applied to damp skin, massaged in and removed with warm water, completing my double cleanse. This cleanser contains a host of goodies including Red Algae and Apricot Oil to help reduce the appearance of age spots.  Omega 3 Fatty acids, Goji Berry and blackcurrant and Starflower lipids all add to the goodness.

The 200ml pump action bottle produces enough in one pump to cleanse your whole face, I really did feel that combined these two cleansers gave a really deep down clean without leaving my skin feeling stripped.

You are recommended to follow your cleanse with Ark Hydrating Toner, this I didn't have so used a different brand. Followed by

ARK Agedefy Brightening Cleanser + Nourishing Moisturiser
Ark Agedefy Nourishing Moisturiser. This really is the loveliest moisturiser, the 50ml pump will be ample for your face with one pump, but should you wish to cover neck and decolletage then you will need more. It is light but at the same time rich, easily absorbed leaving a silky not greasy finish. It has an almost clinical fragrance which is really quite refreshing, containing 100% natural Hyaluronic Acid it leaves your skin feeling firmer and with quite a bounce to it.  I would say once you have tried this moisturiser it could easily become your ( go to )

House of Helen : Hydration Injection Masque

I mentioned a couple of months back that I've become slightly obsessed with skincare, I've literally gone from thinking "makeup wipes will do" to owning every cleanser on the planet.. Well not quite but my collection seems to be growing by the minute. After discovering ARK Skincare at the Bloggers Hangout London Fashion Week event and their amazing cleansing oil , I realised how much more proper cleansers have to offer than makeup wipes and I've made a conscious effort ever since to remove my makeup properly. I've got to say, I can see a huge difference in my skin, it feels so much softer and there's less redness and it's all thanks to that clever little cleanser.

When I heard ARK were releasing the Skinperfector Hydration Injection Masque* I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and see what it could do. ARK Skincare is a British skincare brand whose products are designed to treat skin depending on the age rangeand contain the best possible ingredients for that range, they also contain all natural ingredients.

The Skinperfector Masque is an intensive multivitamin hydration injection masque to quench skin, plump wrinkles and restore vibrancy. A bold statement but I have huge faith in ARK so I was confident even before trying it that this product would impress me.

The instructions say for teens and twenties (my age category, although very much on the twenties side!) to leave the masque on for approximately 5 minutes and then wash it off with a hot cloth, which is what I did for the first 4 or 5 times I used it. It does tingle a bit when it first goes on which is just the hyaluronic acid doing its thing. Although there was a difference in my skin it wasn't quite as much as I wanted to see so I then decided to go for an overnight intensive treatment and oh my goodness, the difference was unbelievable! My skin felt so soft and hydrated, I get quite dry skin around my nose and it completely got rid of that which meant my makeup looked much nicer and I didn't get any flaky patches towards the end of the day like I sometimes do. It acts as such an amazing base and completely refreshed my skin. I'm going home at the end of the month and I'm going to take it with me and introduce my mam to the world of ARK Skincare as I know she'll love it as much as I do.

As it is an intensive masque you only need to use it once or twice a week which is definitely enough to see a difference in your skin. I think this would be a brilliant product to take on holiday with you to give your skin a bit of TLC whilst you're in the heat and will soothe and restore giving you an extra radiant look whilst you're away. I actually used it after being out in the 27 degree heat on Sunday (unbelievably hot for England for those of you who are from hotter climates) and my skin felt incredible on Monday morning. Oh and for those of you who are brave enough to camp at festivals (I'm certainly not!) it would be the perfect product to use as a pick me up after being out in what I can only imagine is freezing conditions! What better time for a pamper than when you're back in the comfort of your own home.

Priced at £35 for a 75ml bottle it isn't cheap but you only need a very small amount and when you're only using a product once or twice a week it will last you absolutely ages. Skincare is so important and this product makes such a difference to my skin that I think it is completely worth the price. I would recommend it to anyone and especially those of you who could do with a post holiday treat! I'm officially ARK's number one fan. Well done ARK!

Have you tried and my ARK products? What are your favourites?

Pretty Not Included - Age Protect Range

I've always felt that if you have a large sized skincare range, you should be sure to outline the target audiences for each product line. Make it easy for us so we have minimal excuses as to why we don't currently have a skincare routine. Ark Skincare are such a brand that have highlighted their range for each age group.
I've been using the cleanser and moisturiser from their Age Protect range which is aimed at people in their teens and 20s. My skin is very different to how it was in my teens so I was curious to see whether it would be an effective option for me. My teen skin was very oily and acne prone. Now, at the age of nearly 25, my skin is dehydrated, with minimal hormonal blemishes and most of the oiliness is gone.

The Age Protect Skin Clear Cleanser* was up on my bathroom shelf as soon as this package arrived. You know I love a good cleanser and it's been awhile since I've had a gel formulation in my routine so I was looking forward to using this in the mornings. It's a soap free cleanser that doesn't really foam up when massaged into damp skin so I wasn't worried about it being stripping or overly drying. It also contains oat amino acids which are created from oat proteins. They're a conditioning ingredient so I think this helped to prevent over drying. This is such a refreshing face wash to use on mornings especially if I've slathered my face in oils the night before. It just re-balances my skin and is so quick to use which I love first thing! I think this will be a great Summer cleanser if the weather gets hot and sticky. I also enjoy using this on some evenings after a really sweaty work out. It's a very light gel texture so it doesn't leave my skin feeling heavy or clogged.
This is going to sound strange but I've always wanted to have a moisturiser in the type of packaging where you press the top and the product comes out! Although it's a bulky design, it's so fun (always the little things, eh?) and more hygienic than a pot. Luckily, the Age Protect Skin Vitality Moisturiser* was equipped with such a nifty design. This one has a nice selection of nourishing ingredients that I was happy to get onto my skin. Avocado, peach lipids and olive oil are set to replenish and keep skin hydrated whilst also balanced. It also contains marine algae (this is my ingredient of 2016) to help protect the skin from environmental damage. There's been a lot of emerging research on the effects of pollution on our skin so introducing skincare like this to people from a young age is so important.
This moisturiser looks thick when it oozes out of the pot but it's actually a very light and refreshing formulation. For me, this isn't rich enough on its own for my dehydrated skin. I mix it with a facial oil and it applies beautifully. The combination doesn't leave a greasy finish on the skin but more of a fresh look. Unfortunately, it doesn't leave me skin as plump and nourished as it is when I use my other usual moisturisers. If you have combination to oily skin though, I think this would be a good fit.
The biggest thing I've taken away from having these in my routine is that I really wish I had these products when I was a teenager. They're so much more caring, gentle and nourishing on the skin than an intense scrubby face wash from Boots that depletes all of the oils in your skin and leaves it feeling tender and sad. I'll be passing these on to a family member who's skin suits it a lot better.
I've been exploring and their serums look interesting (especially the De-Stress Serum) and also that Hydration Injection Mask which is suitable for all ages, they just direct you on how long you should leave it on for - clever!

Spring Moisture Picks

With Spring ever so slowly starting to make it's presence known, my skin is starting to change with the weather so I've been dropping the super heavy moisturisers and oils for lighter alternatives. Don't get me wrong, I still slap on an oil most evenings, I've just been choosing to go for a lighter option.

Despite my skin being far more dry in Winter, I've been using a day moisturiser far more and have been loving the Ark SkinCare Age Protect Skin Vitality Moisturiserwhich has honestly been making the biggest difference in my skin. I was kindly sent this but I always trial skincare for at least 10 days and I've been using this now day & night for about 3 weeks so I've definitely given it a more than fair trial! The packaging is brilliant, you push down the top and it pushes the product upwards so it's far more hygienic than dipping your fingers into a pot. The consistency is neither light nor heavy which makes it perfect to apply before makeup. I tend to pop this on in the morning and in the evening after I apply whatever facial oil or serum I'm going for. It's part of a range that is designed for teens & 20s to protect your skin and prevent it from ageing. That's not the reason I've been using it, it's just a fab moisturiser!

Farheenxo : Pro Remove Pre Cleanse Review

ARK is a premium quality British skincare brand which uses natural active ingredients to treat skin by age and skin concern. I first came across ARK Skincare at The Bloggers Hangout London Fashion Week Event (post here) and I was really impressed by the company and the concept of their products. The brand stands out for me because it is very age aware; they have product ranges specific to different age groups as they believe that different age ranges have different requirements for their skincare, and they also have a vast variety of skincare products including cleansers, face masks, moisturisers and many others!

Over the last month or so, I have been using the ARK Pro Remove Pre Cleanse* Oil and it has become a big part of my skincare routine! As you may know, my normal to dry skin has become very dry and dehydrated during the colder months, so I've been looking for products which will give my skin the TLC that it really needs and my Pro Remove Pre Cleanse by ARK has been exactly that!

Cleansing oil's have been very popular recently, and after trying out the ARK Pro Remove Pre Cleanse, I can see why - they're a lot more effective at removing long lasting make up and unlike water based cleansers, they don't completely dry out your skin, which works really well for me.

This cleansing oil has been specially designed to be used as the first step in a double cleanse routine as the multi fruit lipid blend works brilliantly at dissolving the make up, dirt and grime that the skin builds up throughout the day. It contains a blend of Grape Seed, Avocado and Kiwi Oil, which cleanses and nourishes the skin, as well as Zi Cao (an ayurvedic herb), which helps soothe sensitive skin.

To double cleanse my skin after a long day, I've been applying the ARK Pro Remove Pre Cleanse all over my face first and massaging it into the skin to dissolve the make up, and then I've been rinsing it off with warm water and going in my current everyday cleanser (which is the Skin Doctor's pH Balancing Cleanser).

It's important to bear in mind that ARK is a premium quality skincare brand, with a premium quality price tag. - the Pro Remove Pre Cleanse comes in a 150ml bottle and retails at £30, which I know isn't for everybody, but I find that the product has been effective for me and I've noticed a difference in the way my skin looks and feels since I've been using it.

Ark Skincare Hydration Injection Masque

I love a good skincare shelfie, and although technically these aren't photographed on my shelf, I love them all the same. I've switched up my skincare over the last couple of months to give myself chance to try some new products. My skin, despite a few issues with acne on my chin, has been pretty good lately. I had a skincare consultation recently and they said how smooth the texture of my skin is, and that is definitely a result of one of the products I have been trying…

To kick-start my skincare regime I have been using the ARK Skincare Pro Remove Pre Cleanse (£30) and ARK Skincare Age Protect Skin Clear Cleanser (£24). I had never used this brand before, so when I was introduced to it I knew almost instantly that it would be a relationship of complete admiration. The product that enthused me the most was the Pre Cleanse. We all know how important double cleansing is, but I was always unsure of what type of cleanser to use first and what one to follow with. This brand makes it super easy. Essentially the Pre Cleanse is an oil that quite literally dissolves every trace of make-up, even stubborn mascara! I also really like that ARK Skincare identifies its products in age ranges to target different skin types. I obviously fall into 'Teens and 20s' which I think really fills a gap in the market. Everything seems to be anti-ageing these days so it's nice to see products that are formulated to our skin when it is at its peak, inevitably preparing it for the ageing process and protecting it against daily pollutants and stressors. The ARK Skin Clear Cleanser is a soap-free facial cleanser with a gel formula, which ultimately feels amazing on the skin. Infused with natural ingredients, the formula balances oily and dry areas to leave skin clear and comfortable. I really like how this slightly lathers when emulsified too, it really feels like it's getting to work without stripping skin of natural oils.
